Cudy X6: OpenWrt flashing guide

Dual-band WiFi 6 router on the older, well-supported MediaTek MT7621 MIPS platform (not filogic, unlike the newer Cudy AP3000 line). Detachable antennas, 5 Gigabit Ethernet ports.

Check v1 vs v2 before flashing — different flash sizes mean different firmware images; a v1 image will not fit/boot correctly on v2 hardware or vice versa.

Steps: flashing OpenWrt

Like the AP3000 line, this needs Cudy’s own OpenWrt-based firmware as an intermediate step before official OpenWrt images will take — but note the download source differs from Cudy’s main support portal.

1. Get Cudy’s OpenWrt image

Download from cudytech.com (not Cudy’s main support/FAQ portal — this device’s files live in a separate location) and extract openwrt-*-flash.bin from the firmware archive.

2. Flash via the stock web UI

Upload openwrt-*-flash.bin through the stock firmware’s normal upgrade page.

3. Subsequent updates are standard OpenWrt sysupgrade

Once on this OpenWrt-derived firmware, later version upgrades are just a normal sysupgrade via LuCI or SSH/CLI — download the sysupgrade image for board cudy_x6 from the OpenWrt downloads page, verify checksums, then flash.

Fallback: serial console

If something goes wrong, the 115200 baud / 3.3V serial header allows direct bootloader access for recovery — see the OpenWrt forum for wiring/pinout specifics on this board.

Verify

cat /etc/openwrt_release
ubus call system board
